Little Quilts

Little Quilts is a subdivision of Porterville Quilters. Volunteers make and distribute quilts (40 inches by 50 inches) to local organizations to be distributed to adults and children in our community who need the warmth and care that quilts provide. We visit and socialize while we learn new techniques and work on projects that are interesting. Along with sewing and cutting the Little Quilts on Tuesdays, we create kits to distribute at the general Club meetings for members to complete at home. Twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring, a Little Quilt is raffled at the Club’s monthly meeting to raise funds for our supplies. Workshops are held after those general meetings for club members to work on Little Quilts.

Some of the organizations to whom Little Quilts donates are:

Lindsay Police Department, Parenting Network, Tulare County Child Protective Services (CPS), Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA), Crisis Center, Sierra View Dialysis Center, Dialysis Center of Porterville.
We have also sent Little Quilts to victims of the Tennessee Floods and the LA Fires.

In 2012, Little Quilts donated 242 quilts. In 2025, as of the October meeting, we have donated a little over 300 quilts and have another 40+ almost ready to go! If you are interested in learning how to quilt, this is a great place to start! Come on in. We’ll teach you! Anyone interested in joining our group is welcome to join us on Tuesdays. Just drop in! There is always something to do!
"Lots of fun ~ come and join us".

Meetings are held Every Tuesday from 9:30am-noon At Hillside Community Church 1091 W. Linda Vista Avenue, Porterville All are welcome to attend!

Local Heroes

Local Heroes is a program through which we honor veterans in our community. Participants in this program work individually or on teams to create patriotic quits approximately 60 by 75 inches. These quilts are presented to veterans in the community who have been nominated. We present one or more quilts to veterans throughout the year at our meetings, but our July meeting is specifically dedicated to Local Heroes. At this meeting, we invite a local hero to be our speaker and to tell about their time on the service and to present them with their quilt inhouse. Other quilts may be presented to veterans in their home if they are homebound. Over 60 quilts have been presented in the past 10 years. A workshop is held after the July meeting for individuals to make patriotic quilts individually or in teams. Usually 2-3 patriotic quilts are completed during the workshop.

To nominate someone to receive a Local Heroes quilt, please go download the Local Heroes nomination form. The form can be turned in at a general meeting, given to a club member, or mailed to us.
